Sr. Director, Design - Men's Ready-to-Wear

Primary Purpose: The Sr. Design Director, Men’s RTW will partner with the SVP, Design - RTW to create RTW concepts each season that are reflective of the creative vision and Coach aesthetic.  The Sr. Director will lead the team to design and develop the collection to meet all critical milestones necessary to deliver the collection for the seasonal fashion shows and to meet the commercial needs.  In their role, the Sr. Director will partner across the business with colleagues from Merchandising, Product Development, Production and Materials Development.  As a leader, they will be accountable to create a dynamic, creative environment where talented designers succeed.

The successful individual will leverage their proficiency in Design to...

  • Collaborate with the SVP, Design - RTW to achieve the creative vision for the RTW, Men’s collection across cut-and-sew, wovens and outerwear for 1941 collection, Retail and Outlet
  • Lead research and develop inspiration boards that convey the seasonal vision, align to global merchandising briefs, and amplify storytelling around the Coach Man. 
  • Continuously bring new ideas and innovative concepts to enhance the collection.
  • Partner with team to refine seasonal concept, materials, hardware, and color palette for RTW collections.
  • Collaborate with design partners in other categories, including Leathergoods, SLGs, Lifestyle, and Footwear, to drive consistent storytelling and creative vision across the brand.
  • Partner with Print Designers on creative direction for prints.
  • Partner with the Global Merchandising team to deliver a compelling assortment that addresses both creative and business goals.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Pattern Makers, Materials, and Product Development on regular basis to ensure successful execution of design intent.
  • Create sketches, product prototypes and finished samples together with the design and workroom team.
  • Responsible for upholding design integrity, high quality execution, and timeliness throughout the entire development process from concept through engineering and commercialization. 
  • Responsible to lead the team to meet all timeline milestones and deadlines; monitor the work of the team to ensure all deliverables are completed accurately.
  • Ensure all prototypes are available for product presentation and finalization.
  • Lead, mentor and develop team member; Inspire team by creating a work environment that fosters creativity and innovation.

An outstanding professional will have...

  • Minimum 10 years of experience designing RTW
  • Experience at luxury fashion house a must
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Design or related field
  • Ability to sketch, drape and work hands on with patternmakers and sample makers
  • Understanding of materials, hardware, leather, and garment construction & performance (i.e. strong knowledge of fabric, material quality, and how it will perform as a garment)
  • Understanding of garment fit & draping and ability to independently conduct fittings on a model
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams
  • Experience developing product directly with factories; understanding of apparel development from concept through commercialization
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Excellent hand sketching skills; ability to create both freeform garment renderings and renderings on figure drawings
