Manager, Privacy Counsel

Primary Purpose:
As Privacy Counsel, you will be responsible for supporting Tapestry’s Senior Privacy Counsel in reviewing, updating and implementing the company’s Global Privacy Program. Responsibilities will include assisting Tapestry’s business units to monitor compliance with global privacy rules, regulations and standards, and attending to various privacy training, developing and enforcing established policies, and identifying the need for new guidance/training.

The successful individual will leverage their proficiency in Privacy and Legal Compliance to… 

  • Support the company’s compliance strategy with applicable global privacy laws and regulations, including the EU General Data Protection Regulation, California Consumer Privacy Act and China Cybersecurity Law.
  • Assist with risk assessments, third-party oversight, training, and compliance-program monitoring and counselling.
  • Identify and assess compliance risks and opportunities, then work collaboratively with all stakeholders to develop and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Monitor changes in applicable privacy laws; prepare updates and communicate with business people to keep them abreast of these developments.
  • Draft, negotiate, and review data-protection agreements, and other agreements for the company in a variety of areas.
  • Maintain and update employee privacy notices, data transfer and data processing agreements, and privacy declarations to data protection authorities in various jurisdictions.
  • Respond to employee and customer privacy questions and complaints.

The accomplished individual will possess…

  • Juris Doctorate.
  • Admission and member in good standing of the bar of New York or the necessary qualifications to register as in-house counsel.
  • Two to five years’ experience in legal practice at a large law firm, in-house legal position or both.
  • At least two years’ experience in Privacy law with knowledge of the global privacy landscape, and a strong interest in proactively enhancing subject-matter expertise.
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability and desire to work closely with business people in many different substantive areas.

An outstanding professional will have… 

  • Hands-on in-house experience with data privacy and security issues.
  • One or more certifications in data privacy (e.g., CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPP/C, CIPP/A, CIPT, CIPM, FIP). CIPM or CIPP/E certification(s).
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to be resourceful and clearly communicate new initiatives to global business teams.
  • Knowledge of and interest in emerging technologies and devices. Technical background or experience with cloud providers.
  • Understanding of CRM trends and best practices.
