Primary Purpose:

This individual will play an important role in the implementation of FASB ASC 842, compliance with GAAP (SOX 404 and COSO), and day to day lease accounting. The role provides support and collaborates with global and cross functional teams including Corporate Counsel, Global Procurement, Real Estate, Treasury and other internal departments.

 

The role of Manager, Lease Accounting is accountable for the following:

 

  • Support implementation of ASC 842 and the lease accounting software solution including managing IT developer and data migration team, confirming accuracy of calculations and system integration to the general ledger
  • Learn lease abstract, accounting and payment, processes and develop skills to act as subject matter expert and super user of the software to assist in training and support of global users across all brands
  • Assist in addressing technical lease accounting and operational matters including contract/ lease review, assessing lease type, determination of possession dates, impact of options and terms, and accounting for lease components in accordance with ASC 842
  • Responsible for accounting in accordance with GAAP including the completeness and accuracy of the lease population (as well as potential for embedded leases), review of discount rate and reconciliation of ROU Asset, Lease Liability, other occupancy type accounts
  • Timely and accurately prepare journal entries in accordance with monthly close process, including percentage rent
  • Prepare quarterly financial presentation and disclosure supporting documentation
  • Prepare quarterly financial statement analysis for management reporting (including special projects and ad hoc reporting)
  • Implement and maintain effective internal controls in compliance with SOX 404 requirements
  • Implement and maintain global lease policy and standard operating procedures
  • Liaise with internal and external audit, manage and review auditor requests
  • Manage communications with landlords including sales letters and ad hoc requests
  • Review CAM reconciliations and calculations in accordance with lease agreements
  • Collaborate with international entities to satisfy any statutory accounting and reporting requirements
  • Drive efficiencies by continuously challenging current thinking and constantly evaluating processes and systems to ensure operations and control environments are efficient and effective
  • Perform administrative duties of the department including, but are not limited to training, budgeting, planning and scheduling

 

The accomplished individual will possess:

  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent team player who works extremely well in a collaborative environment
  • Attention to detail and delivery focused
  • Strong analytical skills, willingness to understand transactional details and apply to the larger picture
  • BS in Finance/Accounting
  • Relevant two to five years experience
  • Working knowledge of the COSO internal controls framework
  • Ability to multi task and strong organizational skills
  • Strong Microsoft office skills, including knowledge of Excel

 

An outstanding professional will have:

  • Big 4 Experience or Public Accounting with Retail Experience
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent credential
  • SAP experience
  • Experience with technical accounting and systems implementation
