Primary Purpose

This individual will play a vital role within the lease accounting team, following accounting rules and guidance with US GAAP, compliance with SOX 404 and COSO, and day-to-day lease accounting. The role provides support to and collaborates with global and cross-functional teams including Real Estate, FP&A, Brand Control, Global Control, Global Procurement, Tax, and other internal departments.

The role of Manager, Lease Accounting is accountable for the following:
 

  • Learn and demonstrate knowledge of US GAAP ASC 842, lease accounting, corporate finance, and control ERP software solutions.
  • Learn lease abstract, lease accounting (initial lease measurement, lease modifications/extensions, terminations, etc.), payment processing functions.
  • Develop skills to act as subject matter expert and super user of the software to assist in training and support of global users across all brands.
  • Assist in addressing technical lease accounting and operational matters including contract/ lease review, assessing lease type, determination of possession dates, impact of clauses, options, and terms, as well as accounting for lease components in accordance with ASC 842
  • Be responsible for accounting in accordance with GAAP including the completeness and accuracy of the lease population (as well as potential for embedded leases), review of discount rate and reconciliation of ROU Asset, Lease Liability, other occupancy type accounts.
  • Timely and accurately prepare journal entries in accordance with monthly close process, including percentage rent.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly account reconciliations.
  • Prepare quarterly financial presentation, and disclosure supporting documentation.
  • Assist in preparation of quarterly financial statement analyses for management reporting (including special projects and ad hoc reporting)
  • Implement and maintain effective internal controls in compliance with SOX 404 requirements.
  • Implement and maintain global lease policy and standard operating procedures
  • Liaise with internal and external audit, manage and review auditor requests
  • Review reconciliations and calculations in accordance with lease agreements
  • Collaborate with international entities to satisfy any statutory accounting and reporting requirements

  • BS in Finance/Accounting
  • 4+ years of experience
  • Working knowledge of the COSO internal controls framework
  • Ability to multitask with strong organizational skills
  • Agile, flexible and driven
  • Strong Microsoft office skills, including knowledge of Excel (V-lookups and pivot tables)
     

An Outstanding Professional Will Have
 

  • Exceptional time management skills
  • Familiarity with retail leases and the ability to interpret key lease provisions.
  • Strong analytical skills, willingness to understand transactional details and apply to the larger picture
  • Big 4 Experience or Public Accounting with Retail Experience
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent credential
  • SAP and Blackline experience
  • Work experience in lease accounting is a plus
  • Experience with technical accounting and systems savvy
