Overview

The Director of Product Development directs the development of product from initial design concept to bulk production order placement. 

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Monitors and ensures on-time delivery of development for all calendar milestones, providing timely and consistent updates.
  • Oversees the sample development with Service Providers, managing capacity, capabilities and deadlines. 
  • Manages sample tracking, providing charts, metrics and costs on a regular basis to ensure adherence to budgets and agreed upon sample counts. 
  • Partners cross-functionally with Design, Merchandising, Technical Design, Materials, collaborating to develop product that meets both aesthetic and business needs. 
  • Manages external Service Provider relationships throughout the development process.
  • Proactively anticipates and identifies challenges in the development process and effectively resolves issues through appropriate actions and communication.
  • Manages the development product allocation to Service Providers, ensuring alignment with production sourcing strategy.
  • Provides product costing and works with technical team to propose options to improve costs and IMUs.
  • Main point of contact with Service Providers throughout the development process, providing clear and timely communication. 
  • Continual review of work flow and processes to maximize efficiencies and reduce redundancies.
  • Manages team and direct reports, providing coaching, direction and development opportunities.
     
     
    Qualifications/Competencies
     
  • College degree required
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in product development including the categories of handbags, SLGs and/or Tech Accessories
  • Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills
  • Initiative/sense of urgency; demonstrated problem solving skills
  • Proficient in Windows-based software such as Excel and Word
  • Embraces change, able to adapt and excel in a rapidly evolving and growing environment
  • Strong influencing skills
